If you are considering tweaking or starting a new skincare routine and want some help to get started, you’re in the right place. One of LoveSkins favourite facialists shares her simple routine and some of these tips may work for you.

What Is Your Current Skin Care Routine?

My skincare routine is actually quite simple and focused on consistency rather than using too many products.

In The Morning…

  • In the morning, I wash my skin with a gentle gel cleanser to remove excess oil and refresh the skin without stripping the skin barrier.
  • After cleansing, I use a Vitamin C serum because it is a powerful antioxidant that helps brighten the complexion, protect the skin from environmental damage, support collagen production, and improve overall skin radiance.
  • I always finish with SPF 50, which is the most important step in my routine. Daily SPF helps protect against premature ageing, pigmentation, sun damage, and collagen breakdown. I usually skip moisturizer in the morning because I prefer to apply a generous amount of SPF, which also works as hydration for my skin.

And The Evening?

My evening routine varies depending on what my skin needs at that particular time. I always cleanse my skin properly either with a cleanser or, if I feel very tired, I use micellar water in bed to remove makeup and impurities gently.

After cleansing:

  • I use a Hyaluronic Acid serum when my skin feels dehydrated or needs extra hydration. Hyaluronic acid helps attract and retain moisture in the skin, leaving it plump, smooth, and healthy-looking.
  • I use a Salicylic Acid serum when my skin feels more oily or congested. Salicylic acid helps unclog pores, reduce excess oil, minimize breakouts, and improve skin texture.
  • I also try to use retinol once or twice per week (usually avoiding it during the summer months). Retinol is excellent for stimulating collagen production, improving skin texture, reducing fine lines, helping with pigmentation, and supporting overall skin renewal.

To Tone, Cleanse or Moisturise… What Order Should Our Skincare Products be Used In?

This is easy to get confused over, it’s a lot more simple than you think. The general order of skincare application should be:

  1. Cleanser
  2. Toner (if used)
  3. Serums
  4. Eye cream
  5. Moisturizer
  6. SPF (morning only)

Products should generally be applied from the lightest consistency to the thickest. Cleansing removes dirt, oil, and makeup so the skin can absorb active ingredients properly. Serums are applied next because they contain concentrated active ingredients targeting specific concerns such as hydration, pigmentation, ageing, or acne. Moisturizer helps lock in hydration and support the skin barrier. SPF should always be the final step in the morning routine to protect the skin from UV damage.

So, what products are best for each skin type?

There are a lot of products on the market which can be overwhelming. We use a brand called CellDerma and these are some of the magic potions I find work well with specific types of skin.
