What causes thin lips?
Thin lips are a common sign of ageing. Flat, thin lips appear over time due to lost volume in the surrounding area. Weak and thin lips add to the appearance of wrinkles and creases near the mouth, including smoker’s lines. Thin lips often make you look older than you are.
Depleted jaw bone density is a frequent concern associated with ageing, and this is common when you have underlying dental problems. This bone loss leads to a lack of support for facial features, including lips.
You may assume the only way to combat thin lips is to get a surgical facelift; however, there are less invasive ways. Non-surgical procedures using dermal fillers restore lost volume and give you a renewed, youthful appearance.

Creating Fuller Lips
To plump your thin lips, we’ll start with an assessment of your facial structures. We need to identify the areas that lack the fats and proteins that give your lips a natural lift. This information will feed your tailored treatment plan.
Dermal fillers use hyaluronic acid to plump and rehydrate your skin. The result of us injecting fillers into affected areas is a natural-looking increase in volume. Although subtle, you’ll notice the difference in your lips immediately.
Your treatment will consist of several injections and will take around 30 minutes. Lip filler treatment is pain and discomfort-free, with no downtime following the procedure. Any swelling or redness around your lips should pass within days.

Having not been to dentist in years I was very nervous but my dentist Laraeb Nawaz made me feel totally at ease and talked me through everything that I needed done, she is lovely and a credit to Love Teeth. All the staff have been so nice, welcoming and attentive. Thank you for all looking after me.
Yes I would definitely recommend this practice! I’ve just had root canal treatment and a crown by Dr. Sheena and her fantastic and caring assistant Maria! Both made me feel at ease and both very professional, excellent work, my teeth feel great! I can not recommend this practice enough.
I visited Megna for Invisalign treatment and I am incredibly impressed by the quality of treatment and care she has showed. It has been 12 weeks since I started the treatment and have noticed a significant change to my smile. She answers any questions I have and I can see she loves what she does through her diligence in planning my (complex) case!
I chose love teeth ahead of my wedding as I kept seeing the ABC package advertised and I’m so glad I did! Depen was amazing throughout my Invisalign journey and then Michael (the bonding specialist) has been incredible and given me the teeth I’ve always wanted! Any issues I’ve had even after the ABC package they have managed to sort out straight away and have been so lovely throughout. I’m super grateful to the team and so so happy with my new teeth!
Root Canal and Crown. This was for a cracked tooth NHS said could not save. Dr Sheena Patel did amazing work, highly skilled professional but also a lovely person as are all the staff at the Sutton branch. Very pleased with the results and delighted my tooth is now perfect. Well done Love Teeth!
I don’t have a bad word to say about Love Teeth North Cheam & the Stonecot branch. I’ve been lucky enough to have experienced and been cared for in both branches. I’m now at the end of my Invisalign treatment and I can say hand on heart it’s been such a positive experience from start to finish over the past 8 months & have felt so relieved I chose Love Teeth for this treatment. Everyone from the reception staff, to the hygienist, all the dental nurses assisting, and to my amazing Invisalign dentist Michael have been so friendly, welcoming, caring and approachable. They will always go out their way to give you the best experience possible. Both branches are very modern, bright and sleek when you walk in, particularly the new Stonecot branch which has just opened, where they even have Netflix on the ceiling for you to watch while getting your teeth done, which is very fun! Even the Love Teeth bags your given are lovely (which sounds ridiculous) but it’s the little touches, and all very well organised. My dentist Michael has been so brilliant, he’s been so thorough with his care, honest, he takes his time explaining things and has been so reassuring. I’ve always felt in such safe hands with his knowledge and treatment, and would always listen to his recommendations. Thank you so much to all the team & special thanks to Michael – it’s definitely been an experience & I’m so glad I chose Love Teeth, will absolutely recommend!! You won’t regret it if you choose Love Teeth!
Highly recommend, the staff are friendly & welcoming, my children are no longer nervous going to the dentist! My 7 year old recently broke his tooth, we didn’t have an appointment but they managed to fit him in, constantly reassuring him & explaining everything that they were doing & he was back at school within an hour! Absolutely fantastic service 🌟
2 fillings today, in and out in just 35 minutes. Quick and completely pain free. Great friendly team. By far the best dentist I’ve ever been to. 🙂
Frequently asked questions
What Causes Thin Lips?
As we age, our lips thin. Several factors could contribute to this, including:
- Collagen levels – Ageing contributes to decreased collagen production
- Genetics – Some people naturally have thin or plump lips
- Smoking – Tobacco decreases oxygen getting to your lip tissues
- Sun exposure – UV rays break down collagen in your skin
- Bone loss – Depleted density in underlying bones affects your facial support
Do Dermal Fillers Hurt?
No. Before your filler injection, we’ll numb the treatment site. You’ll experience slight swelling and redness after treatment, but this soon passes.
How Long Do the Effects Of Dermal Fillers Last?
You’ll instantly see the changes from your dermal filler treatment. Over time, your body will naturally break the filler down. Without topping up the filler with further injections, your lips may thin.
A brief appointment to tweak your filler treatment every 6 – 12 months will maintain excellent results.
