What causes thin lips?
Thin lips are a common sign of ageing. Flat, thin lips appear over time due to lost volume in the surrounding area. Weak and thin lips add to the appearance of wrinkles and creases near the mouth, including smoker’s lines. Thin lips often make you look older than you are.
Depleted jaw bone density is a frequent concern associated with ageing, and this is common when you have underlying dental problems. This bone loss leads to a lack of support for facial features, including lips.
You may assume the only way to combat thin lips is to get a surgical facelift; however, there are less invasive ways. Non-surgical procedures using dermal fillers restore lost volume and give you a renewed, youthful appearance.

Creating Fuller Lips
To plump your thin lips, we’ll start with an assessment of your facial structures. We need to identify the areas that lack the fats and proteins that give your lips a natural lift. This information will feed your tailored treatment plan.
Dermal fillers use hyaluronic acid to plump and rehydrate your skin. The result of us injecting fillers into affected areas is a natural-looking increase in volume. Although subtle, you’ll notice the difference in your lips immediately.
Your treatment will consist of several injections and will take around 30 minutes. Lip filler treatment is pain and discomfort-free, with no downtime following the procedure. Any swelling or redness around your lips should pass within days.

Having hated my teeth all my life I decided to treat myself! I did a lot of research and Love Teeth had very good reviews and they also had local practises which made them a good choice. Prior to having porcelain veneers fitted, I saw the hygienist and also had some root canal work done. I wouldn’t say I have a phobia of dentists but I am nervous! But I needn’t have been. It was all pain free! The reception girls were all lovely too. Very friendly and they remember your name! Overall, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Love Teeth (I attended the Sutton clinic).
After having such a great experience myself, I took my 17 year old son for a check up. Again the experience was brilliant and consistent to mine. My son can’t wait to start treatment which is lovely to see, I will definitely be moving my husband over to love teeth as well. Thank you love teeth
I was so comfortable while they were working on a root canal I actually fell asleep. Great service and patient care.
Wonderful wonderful wonderful! I am so impressed with the incredibly kind, professional staff at this amazing practice. We booked in for a check up and was absolutely delighted when we went in to find a child-centric, relaxed atmosphere where my son felt comfortable. The theming of the waiting room is fantastic, and makes a trip to the dentist an exciting experience for a child, rather than a dreaded one, he even looked forward to returning for his filling! Cannot recommend this place enough, definitely a win for Love Teeth.
For me to go to the dentist is a miracle, im a cry and run patient. Deryn was amazing made me feel totally at ease and was kind and caring. I was shocked at the atmosphere as previous experience had ruined me. Its a lovely friendly place with no dentist sound and smell. Tailored made treatment. Cannot recommend enough. Also 1st time ever going to a dentist on my own, im 55 😁 so tells you what this place has.
The girls are kind and lovely and Emanuele so experienced with implants that the entire procedure is quick and relatively painless. Highly recommend.
Dr Caroline and her assistant were fantastic. A very good service excellent dental care and advice. I followed a 5 month programme of Invisalign and now for the first time in my life I have perfect straight white teeth. I can smile with confidence. The cost was reasonable and I came away very happy and satisfied! Thank you Love Teeth and all the team at Sutton Practice!
Beaut practice and welcoming staff! Had a couple composite fillings with Dr Deryn and couldn’t be happier. I’m usually anxious when visiting the dentist but Deryn and Natascha made my experience feel relaxed and comfortable. Staff at front desk are lovely and put me at ease from the get go – thank you Tracey, Eloise and Colette for your support ❤️
Frequently asked questions
What Causes Thin Lips?
As we age, our lips thin. Several factors could contribute to this, including:
- Collagen levels – Ageing contributes to decreased collagen production
- Genetics – Some people naturally have thin or plump lips
- Smoking – Tobacco decreases oxygen getting to your lip tissues
- Sun exposure – UV rays break down collagen in your skin
- Bone loss – Depleted density in underlying bones affects your facial support
Do Dermal Fillers Hurt?
No. Before your filler injection, we’ll numb the treatment site. You’ll experience slight swelling and redness after treatment, but this soon passes.
How Long Do the Effects Of Dermal Fillers Last?
You’ll instantly see the changes from your dermal filler treatment. Over time, your body will naturally break the filler down. Without topping up the filler with further injections, your lips may thin.
A brief appointment to tweak your filler treatment every 6 – 12 months will maintain excellent results.
